New Ford S-Max is no more automental

Visually the facelifted 2010 S-Max has improved overall. A bit cleaner, a bit more upmarket. The glass sideline is now framed by a chrome line, as we suggested in our automental S-Max.

I am not sure about the front, on the photos it looks a bit too negative. The rear lights are big, too big? The interior definitely looks more premium, though the colour choices are still reduced. You now can choose among several black options, at least in the UK. If you want any other colour, you have to buy a Galaxy apprently. Another case of mad marketing?

And, horror, it appears as if the great 5 cylinder turbo engine has been dropped. Instead there is an eco-boost 200 hp 4 cylinder. Oh please, yes the 5 pot engine was maybe a bit thirsty, but could have been improved, especially with an autogas conversion. Maybe the S-max will redeem itself, if the new engines turn out to be better than I fear. But what a shame. I guess the next generation Focus will loose the great 5 cylinder as well...

Is it simply because of the economics and efficiency or is it because it was a Volvo engine and since Volvo has been sold...?
